What is Spyware?
|
|
| |
|
|
Spyware is a program that secretly collects your personal
information and transmits it over the Internet. Usually bundled with other
downloaded applications, spyware installs itself in your computer without your
knowledge and is not detected by anti-virus programs.
Spyware programs can record your credit card information, social security
number, email, passwords, and keystrokes, which other people can use for
identity or credit card theft. Other types of spyware record your Web browsing
activity and sell this to third-party advertisers, who in turn will send you
targeted ads. Some spyware allow third parties to access and manipulate your
computer, causing your system to slow down, freeze, or crash. Spyware can also
cut off your Internet connection or infect your computer with viruses.

|
|
How
does ZeroSpyware 2005 work? |
|
| |
|
|
ZeroSpyware 2005 uses a comprehensive database of known spyware
to detect and remove malicious programs in your computer. It monitors your
Internet connection and all possible entry points, blocking any new spyware
from secretly installing itself in your system. It blocks bad cookies that
track your Internet activity so you can surf the Web without having to worry
about your privacy. It also looks for critical system vulnerabilities which can
be used by spyware to enter your PC, and protects your system and configuration
files from tampering.

|
|
 |
|
| |
|
|
What
are cookies and why do I need to block them? |
|
| |
|
|
Cookies are small files that store your personal data. When a
website asks you for information like your name, e-mail address, or age, your
answers are stored in a cookie so the website will remember you in the future.
While some cookies are harmless, others (what we call 'bad cookies', or
trackware) store your information for other purposes. Some cookies give your
personal information to advertising companies who want to send you targeted
ads. Hackers can also use bad cookies to steal your identity. Blocking bad
cookies ensures your privacy, keeps out ads and junk mail, and protects your
important data like credit card information from prying eyes.

I have ZeroSpyware 2005 running. How do I stop these alert
boxes from popping up? |

Intrusion alerts like Startup, Favorites, Homepage or BHO alerts usually pop up on your screen to
inform you that a change is being made on your system. In case these alert
boxes irritate you, you have the option to choose to either always block or

possible spyware attempts to change your system. Features that will allow or
block specific entries permanently are still being developed by our software

Every time I run ZeroSpyware 2005, the auto-cookie blocking feature alternately activates and deactivates. Why is that? |

My ZeroSpyware 2005 disables valid applications from running at startup. I already selected Allow but it doesn't seem to remember my settings. Is there anything else I need to do to prevent this? |
|
| |
|
|
This is a known issue with ZeroSpyware 2005 version 3.2.36.4. Our Quality Assurance Specialists was able to verify that ZeroSpyware 2005 prevents certain valid applications from running at startup. The problem has already been fixed on the new version 3.2.43.4 which was released for download on July 27, 2005. After installation of the new version, user should go "Remote Restore" panel then "Startup Management". The "Refresh" button should be clicked for the application to get the fresh copy of the entries from the registry. Disabled entries should not appear anymore on the list. If in any case that entries in the startup manager list become disabled, this means that it is already being disabled and controlled by the application itself and not by ZeroSpyware 2005. |

After installing the latest version of ZeroSpyware 2005, I am not able to successfully scan my system for spyware. It crashes and/or freezes while performing a spyware scan every time. What do I need to do? |
|
| |
|
|
This is a known issue on ZeroSpyware version 3.2.36.4 for Win9x (Windows 98 and ME) operating systems. This has already been fixed on our new version 3.2.43.4 which was released for download on July 27, 2005. In case you would still encounter the same problem, a workaround can be followed:
1. Close ZeroSpyware by right-clicking on the ZeroSpyware icon in your task tray and selecting Exit ZeroSpyware.
2. Access the link http://www.zerospyware.com/tools/ .
3. Select scanpatch.exe from the list. The file download window will appear.
4. Select Run or Open.
5. The WinZip self extractor window will appear. Make sure that the “Unzip to folder” field is set to C:\Program Files\FBM Software\ZeroSpyware.
6. Click on “Unzip”, and then click on OK then Close.
7. Run icheck.exe from C:\Program Files\FBM Software\ZeroSpyware.
8. Open ZeroSpyware from Start > Programs > ZeroSpyware > ZeroSpyware, and then click on Launch Full Scan.
You should be able to perform a complete spyware scan of your system. Please note that this process will only change the appearance of your scan window. It will still perform the same in-depth scanning of your system, and the scan results will still show grayware applications present in your system.
If you have any questions or need further assistance, please contact any of our customer support representatives through Live Chat or send us an email at support@fbmsoftware.com . |

I removed spyware applications during a previous scan. Why
do I continue to see the same spyware on my list of detected spyware
applications? |
|
| |
|
|
Spyware applications usually enter your system through carrier
programs. Sometimes if you try to remove the spyware, the carrier program
reinstalls them again. It is best to uninstall the carrier program itself
to avoid repeated occurrences of spyware. You can see a list of carrier
programs in the Processes area of the Real-time Protection panel, listed as Grayware applications.
